The current St. Louis Ambush are the second team to use that name. The original St. Louis Ambush played in the National Professional Soccer League from 1992 to 2000. The current St. Louis Ambush team played in the Major Indoor Soccer League during the 2013-14 season before moving to the Major Arena Soccer League, where they have been a member since the 2014-15 season.
The current Ambush franchise kicked off in 2013 with Andrew Haines as the majority owner. Current majority owner Shelly Clark was a minority owner at that time and has been part of the ownership group since the birth of the franchise.
In 2016, Haines sold his majority interest, resulting in a new ownership group consisting of Clark, St. Louis soccer legend Tony Glavin, and Dr. Elizabeth Perez.
Glavin and Perez sold their interest in the organization to Jeff Locker late in 2019. Locker has since poured himself into the club, taking the reigns as General Manager and later Head Coach. Both owners are "hands-on" as Clark serves as CEO and runs the day-to-day operation of the franchise.
The Ambush celebrated their tenth anniversary during the 2022-23 season.
