A STARRY NIGHT IN UTICA
Utica, New York (February 12, 2025) – The stars came out in Utica Wednesday night. All-Stars, that is, as the Major Arena Soccer League’s 2025 All-Star Game thrilled the live crowd at the Adirondack Bank Center as well as those watching on the CBS Sports Golazo network.
Team Kelvin and Team Perera squared off for four quarters of intense action. Team Kelvin took command of the first half of the match on two goals from namesake Kelvin Oliveira (Utica City FC) and one each from Alex Sanchez (Milwaukee Wave) and David Ortiz (Texas Outlaws). Nick Perera (Tacoma Stars) scored the lone goal for the team bearing his name and Team Kelvin enjoyed a 4-1 lead at halftime.
Team Perera shaved the lead in the third quarter, thanks to tallies from William Eskay (St. Louis Ambush) and Ian Bennett (Milwaukee Wave), making it a 4-3 game heading into the final stanza.
With the sixth attacker in play for Team Perera in the fourth quarter, Oliveira went on a run and sent a pass across the box to Sanchez, who easily tapped it into the empty goal to give Team Kelvin at 5-3 lead. The Kelvin side put the ball in the empty net two more times as Oliveira and Sanchez each notched a hat trick, giving the Kelvin side a 7-3 final.
The Ambush were represented by Eskay, who scored the winning tally in the shoot-out challenge that preceded the All-Star Game, and then scored one of Team Perera’s three goals in the game itself. Dylan Hundelt was also tapped to represent St. Louis in the game but was a scratch due to illness.
With the All-Star extravaganza in the books, MASL teams get back to the business of a regular season in progress. Next up for the Ambush is a trip across the state to square off with the Kansas City Comets Sunday, February 16, 2025 at 4:05 p.m. CT at the Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence.
